Amy Charnes, Office Manager, Make it So person
Amy officially started her wine life just a few short years ago. (Off the record one could possibly trace it back to some early-adolescent wine-making in her Minnesota kitchen?) After pursuing a series of completely unrelated (to wine and to each other) career paths she relocated to Oregon to earn her culinary degree. During her schooling she discovered a flair for food and wine pairing, eventually realizing that it was the wine that was always on her mind.
Instead of the traditional kitchen internship at the end of the program, Amy chose instead to work the 2003 Harvest at a winery in Dayton, OR, while completing her credits by cooking for the staff.
The 30%-70% split between the winery kitchen and the lab/cellar solidified her passion for Oregon Pinot Noir and its production. (It probably also solidified her resolve to avoid food service.)
After finishing out the harvest Amy transitioned into retail sales, selling beer and wine, working the floor and ordering for one of Oregon's largest retail accounts. Day in and day out she was given the opportunity to transform everyday shoppers into experienced, educated, sometimes snobby, wine drinkers.
Collecting her varied years of experience in warehouses, offices, kitchens and wineries, Amy accepted the role of Office Manager with Northwest Core Collection in May 2005. She now spends her days sharing her love of Pinot and Oregon's wine country with anyone who calls the main office in Portland.
