Rex Hill Vineyards and Winery was founded in 1982 with the goal to purchase the best vineyard land and to grow and source the highest-quality grapes the Willamette Valley had to offer. The 1920’s building has been carefully converted to the winemaking facility, recognized as a landmark in the Oregon Wine Industry and the gateway to Oregon wine country. The winery, gardens, and tasting room are surrounded by the Rex Hill Estate vineyards. A portion of the vineyards were originally planted to Chardonnay in 1983 prior to the winery's first crush. Since then, the vineyards have been grafted exclusively to Pinot Noir. In addition to the estate vineyards, the brand has several long term contracts with elite vineyards in the Willamette Valley and throughout Oregon.

In December of 2006 Rex Hill Winery and 53 acres of vineyards were purchased by A to Z Wineworks. Partners Deb and Bill Hatcher and Sam Tannahill and Cheryl Francis will oversee the acquisition of the REX HILL brand, inventory and winery vineyards. The combined resources of legacy winery REX HILL and the innovative ownership of A to Z Wineworks have produced a synergy that enhances each of the company's brands. A to Z had been Oregon fastest growing winery and with the purchase of REX HILL, the combined production will make it the largest in the state.

REX HILL consistently produces award winning Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. REX HILL has been named Wine and Spirits Magazine’s Winery of the year 4 times, including 2006.

2007 Pinot Noir Jacob-Hart Vineyard $48 “Pungent red berries and cherry on the nose. Deep cherry and plum flavors show a bit of heat but provide good palate coverage. Pliant, ripe wine with good finishing breadth and repeating warmth. Serve this with a rich red meat dish.” International Wine Cellar
